Last UK performance

Yesterday in London, Maestro Morricone brought his 60 Years of Music Tour to the UK for the very last time. During his last concert of 2018, after playing sold out venues in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Paris and Brussels, the Maestro hypnotized the overflowing O2 Arena with all his classic film scores, earning him 5-star reviews from The Upcoming (“Some of the most iconic and influential musical works of the 20th century”) and The Guardian (“His grand orchestration is built on beguiling intimacy. (…) Epic grandeur”).

Quentin and I

It has come to my attention that Playboy Germany has come out with an article in which I have stated extremely negative comments about Tarantino and his films, and the Academy. I have never expressed any negative statements about the Academy, Quentin, or his films — and certainly do not consider his films garbage. I have given a mandate to my lawyer in Italy to take civil and penal action.

I consider Tarantino a great director. I am very fond of my collaboration with him and the relationship we have developed during the time we have spent together. He is courageous and has an enormous personality. I credit our collaboration responsible for getting me an Oscar, which is for sure one of the greatest acknowledgments of my career, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to compose music for his film.

In London, during a press conference in front of Tarantino, I clearly stated that I consider Quentin one of the greatest directors of this time, and I would never speak poorly of the Academy – an important institution that has given to me two of the most important acknowledgments of my career.

THE MAESTRO RETURNS TO LONDON FOR LAST EVER UK CONCERT

The O2 London

 Monday 26th November 2018

With the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus

Due to phenomenal public demand for Maestro Ennio Morricone’s last ever UK show at London’s The O2 Arena on Monday 26th November, the whole house has been opened up with extra tickets available now!

Rightly considered the world’s greatest living film composer, Ennio Morricone is a legend whose work has reached far beyond the scorched desert-scapes of Almeria (A Few Dollars More) and the tumultuous waters of Iguazu Falls (The Mission). Much sought after by filmmakers the world over for his matchless versatility and productivity, Morricone’s innovative sound works and truly exhaustive range of musical styles have complemented practically every conceivable movie genre there is.

Over a career spanning six decades, Ennio Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television as well as over 100 absolute music works. Highlights include his scores for Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, A Fistful of Dollars, The Untouchables and The Mission.

Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Uglyholds the number two position in the Top 200 ranking of best film soundtracks ever composed.

The performance in London is part of an extended tour to mark his 60-year Anniversary as a professional composer and conductor, which has included more than 40 concerts played in 30 European cities over the last few years, selling over 500k tickets.

In 2016, Morricone composed and recorded the score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, for which he received universal praise, including his long-awaited Academy Award for Best Original Score, his sixth BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, and his third Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.

That same year, Ennio Morricone also reunited with director Giuseppe Tornatore on the romantic drama The Correspondence, starring Jeremy Irons. Its release was exactly 30 years after the 1986 release of The Mission, which also starred Irons. Morricone and Tornatore had previously collaborated on Cinema Paradiso, Malèna, The Legend of 1900, Baariaand The Best Offer.

On the final show in London, Morricone said:
“I have very fond memories of my tours to the UK. From my very first concert at the Barbican Centre to my shows at the beautiful Royal Albert Hall and recently the spectacular nights at the o2 Arena and the Blenheim Palace grounds. The English audience has always given me a very warm welcome and I felt strongly that I should play one last big concert in London before I retire at the end of this year.”
Maestro Morricone will personally conduct the concerts. The concert in London will be performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus. The CNSO has had a long history of working with Maestro Morricone, having joined him on almost the entirety of his tour the past few years. They were also the orchestra on the recording of the music for The Hateful Eight, so the many awards this score garnered show the fruitful collaboration between the Maestro and this orchestra.

The concert is part of his ‘60 YEARS OF MUSIC’ WORLD TOUR. The production has been playing to sold-out arenas across the continent and received standing ovations and overwhelming critical acclaim in the media. The Italian film composer last played a show in London in February 2016.

During his sold out concerts at the monumental Arena of Verona, legendary Italian film composer Ennio Morricone was surprised with an award from his concert producer GEA Live to celebrate the fact that he has sold more than 500.000 tickets to his concerts since 2014. His ’60 Years of Music Tour’, which features over 200 musicians and singers on stage, has been playing to sold-out arenas across the continent and received standing ovations and overwhelming critical acclaim in the media.

The 88-year old composer conducted two sold out concerts in Verona during the Festival della Bellezza, as part of a large-scale world tour which began in January 2016, to mark his 60-year Anniversary as a professional composer and conductor. His current tour, which will continue to visit European cities throughout the fall of 2017, in combination with his ‘My Life in Music’- tour of 2014-5, has now reached the threshold of 500.000 tickets sold.

Receiving his award, Morricone said:

“I feel surprised and honored and moved that such an incredible number of people have come to my concerts. I would like to thank all audience members for coming to hear me conduct my music live. It has been an incredibly gratifying experience for me.”

Concert Producer Floris Douwes for GEA Live said:

“This vast number of sold tickets recognizes Ennio Morricone’s unique place amongst film composers. The past two concerts in Verona alone have sold in excess of 23,500 tickets. These are the sort of numbers that you would normally see with major pop/rock acts, but which are unprecedented for any composer or conductor of instrumental repertoire”

Morricone has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television as well as over 100 absolute music works. Highlights include his scores for Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America, A Fistful of Dollars, The Untouchables and The Mission. Morricone’s score for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly holds the number two position in Top 200 ranking of best film soundtracks ever composed.
His first work for a western since Once Upon A Time In The West over 50 years ago, Morricone composed and recorded the score for Quentin Tarantino’s 2016 movie The Hateful Eight, which won him the Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Award for Best Original Score that year.

Ennio Morricone’s 60 Years of Music Tour is produced by GEA Live (www.gealive.com).
